I am opposed to redundancy.
When you say the "reason why," it's redundant.
BAD GRAMMAR: The reason why we're going to kick your butt is that you haven't a clue about this grammar rule.
"Why" are we going to kick your butt? Reason and why really mean the same thing here.
GOOD GRAMMAR: The reason we're going to kick your butt is that you haven't a clue about this grammar rule.
(That "why" in the first example is not necessary.)
